It is difficult to show students where to place their tongue, teeth, jaw, etc to make the various sounds that we use in speech when we are wearing masks to help keep each other safe. I am providing services to students in-person, through teletherapy, and asynchronous materials. Students benefit from seeing how to make different sounds in order to make progress toward goals. A model of the mouth allows me to clearly demonstrate the placement of articulators regardless of setting (in-person, online, etc). Not only can I show students where ideal placement occurs, but students can also provide feedback by showing me on the model where they are placing articulators.
