Speed Program for Adaptive Learning is part of a special-education cooperative servicing students with profound to severe disabilities. These students thrive on positive reward systems such as PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Strategies). Students that are following PBIS expectations (Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Independent) are provided with immediate positive feedback, paired with PBIS Cheetah Cash.
Each week, students are able to redeem the PBIS Cheetah Cash at the PBIS School Store. The most sought after items at the school store are snacks! Unfortunately these items run out rather quickly, but are the main motivator for our students to succeed socially and emotionally in the classroom.
Our district is soon beginning to phase students into in-person instruction, and motivating items at the PBIS store can help transition students successfully into the school routine. It is exciting to see how proud students are to be able to use Cheetah Cash. Not only did they earn the Cheetah Cash through displaying appropriate school behavior, they practice every-day skills such as shopping at a store and counting out dollars.
