I want to create a class set of diverse books that the students can engage with throughout the year. Each text speaks to the students differently. When the students see themselves in a book, they are more likely to engage and keep reading. With these class sets, the students will be able to explore different stories! In my almost 20 years of teaching, I have always tried to include Hatchet in my unit of study because of how it piques student engagement; this year, I need help bringing it into my students' lives. Because of the pandemic, I could not give my students a copy that they could read along with at school. My students are moderate and severe specialization students who benefit from having the book in their hands. With this project, it would allow them to take their time with the text and experience the materials for themselves.
