This global pandemic has shifted my students to online learning. While this might work for some students, the students I service have varying needs and benefit from tangible activities to engage in to promote play and fine motor development. A lot of my students and their families are low-income and do not have access to age-appropriate toys, small manipulatives, and/or writing tools during remote learning. Evidence-based research supports play and motor skills on cognitive development in children. This research also shows the decline in children's play and motor skills with the rise in technology and tablet/devices. I have already created parent-led activities that will go along with the toys and games on my list that will target their perceptual motor goals. The chosen materials can be sanitized and kept safe between uses. When we return to in-person learning, they will be extremely beneficial for many years to come.
