My awesome job title at SSCMS is the Achievement Center Coordinator, known as the AC Teacher.  Along with my 3 paras, we invite ALL 830 plus students (or as we call them, our customers) to come to the AC classroom before, during, or after school.   Our AC Customer Top Uses: -Homework help/reteaching   -Quiet place to work or take a test -To study with friends -Use of materials (for assignments or projects) -"Brain break"  or reset before heading back to class  -Catch-up schoolwork (due to being quarantined or sick) -A place to talk- and someone to listen (we are always ready to listen) The AC promotes (and teaches) self-advocacy skills and wants our students to use the AC in any possible way that will best support their learning, in any subject area taught at our school. In 2018-2019, we had over 20,000 student sign-ins to use the AC throughout the school year. (Last year was a little different due to the statewide school shut down; however, we continued to support our students virtually.) This year, our student are coming to us feeling uncertainty, like their world is out of control. I want to give them some control back... It may sound little, but giving my students choices on how they will learn better, like where they want to sit, will (hopefully) give them their sense of control back. I want my students to take ownership in their learning, once again, and feel accomplished when leaving my classroom. THANKFULLY, we are all back together and are SOOO in this together... Your time and consideration is truly appreciated. If you are unable to help, that is completely OK, as I know we could all help everyone...especially with the year we have had.
