The MPS Harp Program is providing an opportunity for students to learn an instrument that is too often considered elite regardless of financial background. A majority of students who have shown excitement and interest in the Harp Program attend Title I schools. Several of these students are enrolled in the state’s free or reduced-priced meal plan. They also utilize district-provided instruments in their band or orchestra class free of charge. All of the students enrolled in the Harp Program share approximately 40 instruments. We are only able to provide instruction materials and instrument/performance equipment through community support and volunteer fundraising efforts. The requested performance equipment and music library additions will make it easier to provide every student with positive solo and harp ensemble performance opportunities.
