These materials will help meet some of the most critical needs of my students in a hybrid learning model. For my students in the classroom, many are struggling to sit in one spot for the entire day due to classroom guidelines and restrictions set as a result of COVID-19. At 5 and 6 years old it is not developmentally appropriate for them to have to sit for extended periods of time. Providing these students with flexible seating options will help them remain comfortable and focused in the classroom. Typically, my classroom is full of rugs and pillows which create a comfortable and calming learning environment. Due to COVID-19, I had to remove it all because there were not enough for each individual student. Having these flexible seating options will help me keep my in person students engaged. As an early childhood educator, it is my job to make sure I am meeting the needs of the whole child in a developmentally appropriate way. I would also like to send home books to my fully remote students. These students have had to learn how to read through a computer because we are not allowed to send home leveled books anymore. With the books from my list, I will provide each student with multiple books to help them grow as emerging readers. Right now, these students have not been able to physically hold and read through a book from school. We are trying to teach decoding/tracking skills while having them point at a computer screen and it's just not the same. Learning to read is a challenging time on its own, and these students deserve the opportunity to be able to hold (and enjoy!) a physical book in their hands.
