I am the STEMbrary teacher at Carrie Downie Elementary. My number one job is to teach my students the love of reading! My dream is for my school to participate in One Book, One School during 'I Love to Read' month. Every student will read the same book, A Boy Called Bat by Elana Arnold. The book celebrates acceptance, friendship, kindness, and understanding. Teachers will be special guest readers as we read a chapter a day. Recordings will be made available for families to also read along at home. Creating a routine of reading every night promotes lifelong habits! This book provides the opportunity to teach empathy. Providing students practice recognizing, understanding, and sharing each other's feelings is a valuable skill. This book focuses on many social and emotional learning topics which will benefit my students.
