Although I have been teaching for over 16 years, once the pandemic hit, I felt like a brand new teacher as I had to seamlessly switch from the traditional classroom approach to the virtual teaching approach. I had to think of creative ways to teach and engage students in an interactive method - like they were used to in class. I struggled to find a platform that allowed me to write the algebraic content while explaining the concepts. iPad Air's platform for graphing and solving is the best solution yet!
I plan to use the IPad's interactive platform to write as I teach concepts. For example, to teach transformation of quadratic functions, I plan to use the paper app in combination with the graphing tool to show how a parabola is transformed when there's change to the quadratic expression. A visual of the translations, dilations and reflections will help deepen student understanding which is especially important during virtual or hybrid learning. I plan to purchase an apple pencil which is designed to have a pencil-like feel in the hand, and it is weighted to feel like a real writing instrument that is as close as it gets to writing on a board or a paper. It is precise and accurate to the pixel which enables me to write and share my work in a neat organized manner.
I record instructional videos for my Statistics students and run into challenges of solving problems neatly and explaining while recording. I am confident that the iPad's platform will help make the task faster and easier. It also enables me use statistical apps to show simulations for topics like inference. My AP statistics students will benefit from these easy understand videos. It provides one constant, familiar platform for students, regardless of virtual or hybrid.
