Located in the South Bronx, the Bronx Academy of Promise Charter School serves scholars coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds. At our school, we firmly believe in educating all of our students to the highest learning standards, and maintaining educational equity for all of our learners. Math manipulatives are vital to students’ conceptual understandings of the math topics they are learning. Having hands on base ten blocks will help my visual and kinesthetic learners show what they know, and will enable me to address misconceptions during math class. My students also need dry erase boards and markers in order for me to informally assess their understandings during lessons. In order to aid their math fact fluency, my students need multiplication flash cards to practice their facts nightly. Finally, in order to support my students’ growth as writers, my students urgently need personal dictionaries as a tool to use for understanding unfamiliar words, and to increase their vocabulary knowledge. Please help my students continue to grow this year during remote learning by providing them with the tools they need to succeed!
