A staple in any preschool classroom is a sensory bin. There are an infinite number of choices when choosing what sensory objects to fill your bin with, from sand and water, to colored rice, to even ice and snow! Sensory exploration allows students to develop fine motor skills and to observe using their senses, learning to describe what they feel, see, or smell using scientific vocabulary. Also, it is not uncommon to find other little things hidden amongst sand and rice, such as letters of the alphabet, numbers, and even little animals figurines! The beauty of a sensory table is not only are students developing their scientific and fine motor skills, but they can simultaneously be engaging in literacy, math, or even social-emotional learning! Being remote, sensory learning is one of the most challenging experiences to provide our little learners. We try our hardest to include sensory materials in our supply bags every other week, but this is not easily done without sacrificing our existing class sets of sensory materials meant for in-person learning, or without spending money out of our own pockets. By supporting my project, you will be providing my preschoolers with unique at-home sensory experiences that encourage the development of fine motor and scientific skills as well as expand on the learning we are doing by theme and by subject. For example, sand is always a popular sensory material with students and is great for digging up hidden "buried treasure" of any kind relating to our themes or preschool concepts. Thank you in advance for your support!
