Hello there. I currently teach special education to students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. The students that I am working with are below their grade level in reading and math. Unfortunately, our school district has felt a major impact due to the Illinois State Budget crisis. The needs of our students are not changing with these cuts we have had to make. We currently have two computer labs that are primarily scheduled with the general education teachers, with no more than 10 minutes between different scheduled times. This makes it almost impossible to take my students to the computer labs. My classroom does not have any computer work stations. There is only one laptop in my classroom, mine. This situation limits when my students can have access to technology.
I would love to have an opportunity for my students to have unlimited access to technology to enhance their fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills.
Each student will be able to work on a targeted skill that is on their own current reading level. . This technology will not only increase their reading ability but it will also increase their self-esteem. I also believe that providing each of my students with their own chromebook will give my students the opportunity to work on their math skills at their own pace. I am asking for assistance in achieving this goal I have set for my students.
I am in need of 4-6 chromebooks. I currently have three borrowed laptops from our technology department. Unfortunately, these laptops have been used by high school students and are very old and beaten. One is even constantly shutting itself off.
