In our STEM Lab, my students will build their fine motor skills and spark their creativity with these items. Many of our students do not have building blocks or other creative-play toys at home and their problem-solving skills are not developed. Opportunities to build, create, count, sort and explore are all possible with these sets. In some lessons, the students will have pictures of objects made from the blocks and they will attempt to build the same objects. This is a great activity for kindergarteners, as it builds their confidence when they see their finished product. In other activities, the students build their own creations and can then write about them, integrating literacy with STEM.
