All the materials chosen are focused on literacy. Some of the items such as the books which talk about concepts such as clothes and family all tie into specific studies that are taught in our classroom. They are bilingual books which helps target students who are English and Spanish speakers to better understand the topics in both languages. Other materials such as rhyming word games and alphabet sorting games help students practice their phonological skills as they find items that rhyme or items that begin with a specific letter of the alphabet. These specific materials promote literacy in an interactive and fun way. Focusing on phonological awareness at the preschool level is the beginning of creating successful readers for years to come.
