With a high population of disadvantaged, low-income students, a majority do not have access to the technology needed for distance learning or completing projects essential for a strong high school education. Providing laptops and webcams for students, who would not otherwise have access, keeps them connected and collaborating with peers and teachers through Zoom, ensuring peer support for a well-rounded education and social/emotional network. It is crucial to keep our students in school during this uneasy time, so providing the basic necessities for learning and peer interaction is necessary. Our high school students are already missing out on typical social events such as sporting events, clubs, and prom because of COVID-19, so even the smallest gesture to keep them connected to the high school experience is imperative.
