Students seem to be singularly focused--on their cell phones! There is so much out in the world that the students choose not to participate in because they have everything at their fingertips. Unfortunately, the more advanced the technology, the more stagnant the students become. There are many basic life skills that are not afforded to school districts such as mine. The learning of basic life skills is not only important, but it can be so much fun! Students--especially high schoolers--focus heavily on fashion trends. They spend so much money on clothes, not thinking that there are fun and easy ways to create the same looks that drive the trend of fashion. The purchase of sewing machines gives the students an opportunity to begin to develop a valuable life skill that may thrust them into a world where they can either create new and edgy fashion, or simply repair what they've already invested their money into without spending large amounts of money to replace what has been damaged. Clothing design and costuming also allows them the opportunity to repurpose old fabric, thus helping to reduce the amount of waste that slowly increases due to holes being in shirts, clothes not being able to fit any more, etc. Please consider donating today!
