CPA Approach: Concrete Pictorial Abstract has been identified as an effective instructional approach to teach math concepts. For 5th graders, the Pictorial and Abstract steps are implemented most often for this level of math instruction. It is challenging for students to observe these steps modeled by the teacher using a non-touch screen laptop. Utilizing the 2-n-1 laptop enables my scholars to experience me demonstrating the pictorial (part-part-total, area models, tape diagrams) and abstract (standard algorithm) steps to solve computation problems. By implementing these strategies learned during class, students will be better equipped to critically solve real-world mathematical problems. Using this innovative technology will significantly support me in delivering rigorous math instruction through our virtual platform.
