My students are 6th and 7th grade students attending a Title I charter school in Colorado. They are in an intense reading intervention class because they are all at least 2 years behind grade level in reading due to learning disabilities or English being a second language. We have just started incorporating silent, independent reading into our class a few times a week with books from the library. This is the first time I have seen them so genuinely excited to read all year! They love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, and the Roald Dahl series, and I know they are just beginning to understand how much fun reading can be through these wonderful books.
