School libraries provide more than just literature and technology for our students to access each day. They provide an area for students to learn more about themselves and the communities they come from! They are able to dwell in a space where they see themselves represented in books from all over the world. My goal in asking for bookshelves is to further the idea of a traditional school library by creating 'floating libraries' outside of each classroom in the third grade hallway. Our students arrive very early in the morning and typically open up their computers to access educational sites online while waiting for the bell to ring at 7:45AM. I would love to give these children an opportunity to use that time to walk around the hallway and explore new literature they haven't been exposed to before! Without the help of donors like you, many books will be tossed out as there is no longer enough storage to hold all the richly-infused literary masterpieces given to us. Students will be able to take the books from our floating classrooms home so they can continue their education outside of their school. Please help assist me by promoting literacy continuously inside and outside of the classroom!
