I am a special Ed teacher working with students of all different skill levels. I work with 8th grade students and they all learn in various ways such as hands on, listening, or seeing the work being done. 8th grade math is hard and teaching math to students with learning disabilities is hard to do. It is especially difficult when you are not beside them working along with them, showing them every step and helping them correct mistakes. When we went remote last March, I struggled to find ways to help my students learn. They needed to see and have hands on learning. I found a way to be able to work with my students using an iPad. Their engagement and work quality improved. They could follow along the lesson with me. They could actually SEE what I was doing to show them how to determine what the hypotenuse was, or how to solve multi step equations. I could draw on the IPad with the pencil, and the students would watch and work alongside on their paper. I was able to explain step by step how to solve the equations and those students that needed to actually see the process were able to understand as well. The students loved being able to work right along with me. That iPad I had used belonged to my daughter. She has since got married and uses her IPad to help her virtual students with their art lessons. So I’m trying to figure out a way to work with my virtual students again. It would be so helpful to receive this to make me feel like I’m making more of a difference and actually helping my students understand the work instead of just getting through it.
