I chose such a variety of materials for my project. There are learning games to practice skills in both reading and math. These can be easily cleaned for reuse by multiple learners. I also added math manipulatives because my learners greatly benefit from anything hands-on. More personal items such as the whiteboards (to replace the beat-up ones we have now) work for the class to share their learning during whole group and small group lessons. I believe the use of these items will help my learners to practice and show what they know. Additionally, I selected a variety of amazing books. Some of these will be used as a part of a social studies unit on famous people. Others can be used for read alouds and connected to our ELA standards for story elements, theme, character development, and the 5Ws. We have time set aside for reading aloud every day. These are chapter books we read so the class gets to relax for a few minutes. This is my favorite time of the day to share with my learners, and I can't wait to read the books from this list with them! Finally, I added a few teacher items to my project as well. There is more than one teacher in my room at times and we are unable to share supplies this year. Things like timers and even pens need to be kept separate. Any help would be greatly appreciated for a successful year with my second graders!
