Students have expressed a serious level of burnout and de-sensitization to screens after 1.5 years of learning online. These journals will make a difference for my students, because it will give them the opportunity to reflect, be creative, and practice their writing... without having to open up a laptop or look at a cell phone. It will be therapeutic for the soul, and they themselves will come up with the writing prompts. At the end of the year, students will look back at their journals and see the culmination of their reflections. They'll be able to see not only how their writing has strengthened, but also how they've developed their sense of self. Journaling will be a way for students to process what they've been through, make sense of how they are feeling in the present, and have a brain-break from the other aspects of their Literature curriculum.
