At our school, we use the Accelerated Reader Program to improve students' reading fluency and comprehension. There is no district or PTO funding for incentives or prizes to recognize the students' efforts. Even though we are a Title I school, we cannot use Title I funding for prizes or incentives. The pandemic has disadvantaged our Title I students even more than before. They have limited access to basic supplies and other resources, such as technology devices and Internet. Students across the nation are struggling and they are getting further and further behind academically. By providing incentives and prizes for AR, students will be encouraged to practice and improve their reading skills.
