In the past, I have shared classrooms to host Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). This school year I have a designated classroom just for SEL. Having a classroom that is more inviting and has flexible seating to support mindfulness awareness and strategies will in return put a value on the importance of mental health education. This classroom will not only host all students throughout the school year for SEL guidance lessons but also hosts small group and individual social and emotional support daily. The learning goals of our SEL Mindful Me Initiative align with CASEL which is a research-based SEL competency. These social and emotional competencies include self-awareness; self-management, responsible decision-making; social awareness; and relationship skills. This project will take place during the 20-21 school year and years to come.
