My students are enthusiastic about school, eager to learn, polite, caring, and can't wait to see our next adventure in this new COVID world. I teach at a Native American low-income elementary school. We are considered the COVID hotspot in the U.S. Not only is our state one of the highest, but our county and city are also. We are in person for the first time in 2 years. My students come from all different kinds of households. Some are being raised by their 80-year-old grandmas, aunts, older sisters, and many are in single-parent low-income homes. My students depend on the school to provide breakfast and lunch. They depend on me to help them feel safe, to be someone they can trust, and for a sense of community.
