We start the year by graphing! And then we keep on graphing! The first days are filled with review of graphing lines and linear functions. As we progress, we graph quadratics, exponential functions, absolute value, piecewise, square root, and cube root. All of them require graphing and having a place to keep notes and graphs that students create and can refer back to is important. The years that I have emphasized good notebook keeping skills are also those that keep learning expectations high. We can ask students to buy the quad rule composition books but since most don't buy their own supplies at our school, they end up doing without.
