With our socially distanced classroom and new ways of teaching and learning due to Covid-19, students are not getting as much movement around the room. Children need to move, especially certain students who have difficulties focusing and paying attention during learning time. Teaching during this pandemic has reinforced the fact that students do not learn best while sitting in a chair at their desk all day, and I want to provide my students with the best learning opportunities.
Flexible seating options will allow my students to move while learning! Flexible seating not only allows for student choice, but the movement it encourages also increases oxygen flow to the brain and develops core strength. I plan to use the wobble stools for students as they work in small groups at my table. The cushions will be helpful for students that need extra movement and sensory stimulation while learning at their seats. The ground-level chairs offer a non-traditional seating option that students can be more comfortable in while working.
I want my students to achieve their learning goals this year, and offering some non-traditional seating options will help me better meet the needs of individual students in my classroom.
