The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte is a sorely overlooked novel, and I intend to bring it to my students. This book deals with issues that are still being dealt with today: alcoholism, domestic abuse, child custody, women's rights, and so much more. Not only will my students be looking back at the elements of the Romantic/Gothic British novel, they will be making connections with how we are still struggling with these topics in the present day. This novel was truly ahead of its time, and will make a rewarding addition to our World Novel class.
