Putting NEW books in each child's hand is n exciting way to connect with what the class/teacher is doing. We talk alot about 'loving' books and each day I share a story with my class. I either record me reading or upload a read aloud. Once the children get their books we will have a project where a family member has to upload someone reading the book and/or the student responding to the reading of the book. I may even ask the parents to 'catch' their child reading their book...in bed, under a tree, with a stuffed animal....
