A big part of what we do in kindergarten is lay the foundation on which future skills are built. For reading and writing in particular, a big part of that is instilling an understanding of letters and sounds. I would like to purchase for my room some supplies that would help develop foundational reading skills in a fun way! The biggest part of my purchase are magnetic letter sets. These sets are great because students can use them for word building, sorting, and letter identification. By ordering this amount of sets I would be able to give each of my students two of each letter and as a class we could do some of these activities together, even though we are physically separated. Every year I would also be able to easily pull out letters as they are learned and sort them at the end of the year. I also included some letter beanbags, flashcards, and pocket chart supplies so that I could create other fun activities that help promote those early literacy skills.
