My scholars are required to wear masks and sit behind a desk shield. We have been lucky that the school nurse has some spare masks in her office. However, my scholars tend to lose or break their masks throughout the day. We will be using the masks to ensure that all scholars have a spare mask during the day if they need it. The face shields will be used during our guided reading time. Many of the scholars are currently striving to get back on grade level. Guided reading groups are necessary to help them completely master the phonemic skills needed to begin reading and continue growing their knowledge base. This can be extremely difficult for scholars and me if we are unable to see each other's mouths move when we are working on letter and blend sounds.
