During the quarantine this spring, some families were able to stay home with their children and work with them on their reading skills and completing online assignments. The majority of my students come from homes where both parents need to work and were struggling to support their family and did not have time to work with their children on academics. There is a huge difference in abilities with my students, from independent readers to some that are still working on letter identification. I need to differentiate my instruction in small groups so that I can help each of my students grow from where they are now. Some of my students are able to work independently in stations while I am working with other students, but many of my students do not have the reading ability or stamina to work independently. The district and our school admin understand the need for innovative learning programs to keep our kids engaged and learning while providing data to help me know where I can focus my teaching for each student. Unfortunately the only technology I currently have in my classroom is two student computers. Rotating all my students through the computer station takes a long time and they aren't able to use the programs effectively. Technology stations keep the students engaged and actively learning. They are able to work independently at their level and I am able to concentrate on helping other students. With three tablets in my room to supplement the computers my students will be able to make much more progress in their reading and math skills this year. Thank you for helping my students.
