This is my first year teaching. I was originally hired for a different position in a classroom that had a rug. When I moved positions, I found that my new classroom did not have a rug. A cozy classroom library is very important to me and especially with this group of students. This year is the first year they are receiving truly academic English based on our two-way immersion program model. I am working hard to promote English development by providing many different reading materials and a variety of levels. For this reason, having a space for kiddos to curl up with a good book is very important. I also am very passionate about read alouds. I usually read at least 1 picture book a day and hope to have even more time to read when we get back to in-person learning. Read alouds are pertinent for developing an Emerging Bilingual student’s fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This rug would also provide clear spots for students to sit in while I read and can also help with providing social distancing marks!
