I have a classroom of 23 5 and 6 year olds and one of the most important parts of my job is to teach them to read. We have centers each day where I work on reading with a small group of kids while the others work independently on reading and writing tasks. Listening to reading is one of their independent centers; they listen to stories being read on cd while they follow along with the books. Listening to reading helps them to grow as readers and while they are occupied with this task I can focus on reading with my group!
