It is so important that students be reading throughout the school day. Book clubs are great ways to do this. This way students get to read and learn, socially. It is also important that these books are high interest level for students. Just getting books in their hands is not enough. We must have high engaging and reflective stories for students to read. Through this project, I will do just that. Options in my room for book club will no longer be stories we've been reading for decades. These stories will be stories students want to read in a variety of formats. They will get to not only investigate plots and themes. They will get to investigate how we write and why books have different formats. Having a wide selection of books will also allow my students to be placed in groups based on interests, not reading level.
