Our students need the inspiration to write like an author! Utilizing color when incorporating parts of speech is so powerful for the middle school student. Daily journals and fluency word banks give our students an anchor to build from. As a middle school English teacher, I see the frustration in daily writing. Students need the proper tools to take a simple writing prompt and develop it into a piece of writing. With the proper journals, writing utensils (both regular and colored pencils), and task cards, the students already feel success. The inspiration to take their writing beyond the simple sentence can happen with a new journal or brand new pencils. For our students, these small things make all the difference!
