As I've had a chance to look over our new Science and Engineering Education standards I am thrilled to find ways to incorporate technology, specifically an Apple TV, iPad, and stylus, into these. One of our standards is on matter and chemical reactions. There is a fantastic PHET simulation where a student could watch the behavior of gases as they manipulate the temperature, space, and density of those gases. There are many simulations available through PHET as well as CK-12. CK-12 has several on states of matter where students interact digitally with different states of matter and see how it reacts to different stimuli. An iPad joined with an Apple TV would allow a student to conduct the simulation and project it for all students in the classroom to witness. Because the iPad would be mobile, multiple students around the room could manipulate the simulation. While we are the most excited to use this in our Science lessons, we feel it has application to our classroom environment. By combining the Apple TV and a white board app on the iPad, we would essentially create a mobile smartboard. Students could create work on the iPad with the stylus and then share their work and mathematical strategies. It would be projected where all the students could very easily see it. Student presentations created in Prezi, Adobe Spark, or in the Google Suite would be instantly shareable in a whole-classroom setting.
