Every school year I reflect on what my students learned, what they loved, what I need to do to make the next school year even better. One of the biggest impacts has been the inspiration from books for students in my classroom. I've had to replace torn and tattered books after trying to save them with taped spines; I've inherited books from closed classrooms and retired teachers when my own investment couldn't sustain a new library for my students. When I am able to get a few books from donated families, or pass along old books from my children, my students are so eager to be the first to read them. My students are ready and wanting new series, new genres, and new characters to line the book shelves. Adding titles that are graphic novels, new series, inspiring diverse faces will make a huge difference in the upcoming year for my classroom and students. Thank you for all that you are able to do for my students this year!
