Being able to give my students copies of Enrique's Journey will help them realize that school-issued reading does not have to be boring or irrelevant to their lives. The main character in this nonfiction story deals with so many issues that my own students face - trials and tribulations that I cannot fathom, even as their teacher. This book will make a difference in my students' lives as I believe they will be able to see themselves in it. I believe they will be able to relate to Enrique and his story. I believe that this book will help me and my colleagues forge connections with our students and open up many important conversations.
