Many assume that organization is just “where things go,” but I have found it to be much more. Organization is such an important classroom practice and a key to success that often gets undercut. The materials that I am requesting encourage student independence and engagement which will create a more positive environment. Currently, materials are hidden within cupboards and lost in the shuffle in my room which means they are not effectively used. Without proper tools for organization, my students feel confused and frustrated with the expectations and often times are not as productive. My plan is to create and organize an independent learning center using the materials requested. They will be used for stations with individualized task boxes where students will work exclusively. With this system, students will feel in control of their learning because they will be able to find their own materials and they will be able to choose their own task when an adult is not immediately available. Having materials organized will promote student success because they will know where things are located to be independent learners. All students, especially those with learning difficulties, benefit from an inclusive, kind, welcoming environment which is characterized by consistent routines and expectations, organization, and structure. This type of environment empowers students with learning difficulties to take charge of their learning and reach their potential within any setting. My top priority is to create an environment for my students where they can feel successful. I have seen how organization within my classroom promotes positive student engagement and learning. I hope that with the materials being requested, my students will be able to continue to learn independently, especially when there are additional groups of kids within my classroom. Help me promote student independence through organization within my classroom!
