Through distance learning, my students have enjoyed interacting with novels through virtual class reading, book talks and one pager assignments. My class consists of a variety of learners who all enjoy interacting with novels. More than 3/4 of my class are English language learners who greatly benefit from having a novel in their hands to track and follow along as we read. With distance learning, we are fortunate to have been given the opportunity to read a novel as a class together, but are ready to dive into more.
My students have felt a sense of normalcy in distance learning through our book projects and group discussions revolving around a given novel.
With this project, I am hoping to assist my students in growing their at-home libraries through their love of reading. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan are excellent novels that I would like to read to/with my students. Together, we will read the novel, have meaningful class discussions regarding it and complete engaging projects. Whether distance learning or in-person, I would like for each of my students to have a novel that they can call their own. Please help my class by continuing our love for reading together, from a distance!
