At home learning has been a new and difficult experience for everyone. While creating engaging and creative take home lesson for my 9-12th graders, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to diversify their at home learning when materials are sparse. My students are in an urban setting where funding from the city is barely enough to cover one classroom set. Unfortunately, I cannot expect them to have access to their own art supplies, and items are too limited in the classroom to hand out to the masses. Keeping their motivation high is a top priority for me because I am well aware that once the motivation at home drops, so does their quality of learning. With their current materials being pencil and lined paper, I can’t blame the students for starting to fizzle out. With the materials on this list, we are creating a new world of possibilities for my students. This new door will pull students out of their ruts and re-engage them to the colorful and creative world of art they were expecting to be a part of in-class this year. I tried to keep the materials on the list practical for multiple assignments and easy to disperse. Liquid watercolors, sharpies and oil pastels are all materials that can be used in multiple ways to enhance artwork and re-introduce a little bit of color into their worlds. Other items on my list include paintbrushes and tape, basic components to make these future lessons work.
