The iPad is a fantastic tool for students receiving speech and language therapy, especially during this period of remote learning. There are many technology apps and activities that students can access and engage in to help improve their communication skills. Not only is the iPad a great resource for engaging activities to target speech and language skills, it is also a great reinforcer to help motivate students to participate, thus maximizing productivity during therapy sessions. For example, the program Boom Cards has many different motivating speech and language activities for students that utilize a touch screen to provide interaction and engagement to activities. In addition to direct therapy activities, additional applications such as Seesaw and Classroom Dojo available on the iPad can be used to bridge communication between myself and families. It is vital to have open lines of communication between school personnel and family members, so that we can continue to support families and encourage carryover of communication skills in the home environment.
