Social and emotional learning is a critical part of my instruction. All of these books and resources will go towards developing critical thinkers that have the skills and strategies to navigate the world around them. Many of these books will be used as talking points to provide students with windows and mirrors. A window book allows for students to learn about different perspectives and experiences that differ from their own. A mirror book allows for students to see themselves in books and support their identity growth. Window and mirror books create student dignity in the classroom. A sense of worth and belonging that all students need in order to access their learning. Dignity should be seen as a duty in the classroom.
