We have independent reading times built into our school day. The students are allowed to take books from the classroom library to read during that time. We also have reading log homework each week. Stocking the class library with books they are excited to read makes these subjects feel more like a treat than work.
Some students don't have books available at home to read. They are always allowed to bring the classroom library books home for as long as they need. Imagine these students being able to bring home new books to read and enjoy. They may even share them with siblings each night!
Reading is vitally important to each of us. My goal is to keep their enthusiasm going by providing the reading experiences they ask for and deserve. In return, I hope to build lifelong readers!
