The students I teach very rarely go on to a two- or four-year college. Their next steps after high school are to find a job to help support their already struggling families or to raise enough money to be able to live on their own. They do not have very many job or money saving skills - this is what I hope to change with my Financial Algebra class. Learning how to clock in- and out- of a job, record expenses and deposits in a check register, save money, and relate all these skills to budgets are just a few goals that these items will help achieve. The students will learn how to calculate elapsed time from the time cards and the uPunch machine. They will use the check registers to record finances in relation to the budgets they will create.
