Every day my students ask me for a pencil because without backpacks, they have nowhere to keep one. My students days are filled with hard decisions, outcomes, and choices. However, I have created a culture within my classroom in which we are celebratory of our differences and excited about our potential outside of this classroom. I want to instill in them that they are CAPABLE of doing hard things, but that they don't always need to. By donating to my project, you are telling my student that they CAN do hard things, but that we believe in them enough to give them the tools to make access to education easier. Such as, access to supplies and the ability to learn in an online setting. . In this age of hybrid learning, many of my students have chosen to learn online. However, I do not have the resources to teach them equitably. My current situation consists of me teaching to them on zoom while they are only able to listen and watch what I am doing from afar. With an Ipad, I will be able to write on-screen so they do not have to strain to watch me. I will be able to walk around the room as I teach both online and in-person students without my online students being punished for wanting to stay safe in a pandemic. Yes, sometimes we will have to do hard things in life. Yes, my students are CAPABLE of doing hard things in life. Access to equitable education should not be one of those hard things. Help me show them that there are people who believe that they deserve the same opportunities as other students regardless of what they bring into the classroom.
