I am a first year teacher in Tennessee. Our school consists of 517 students in grades Pre-K through 5th. About 47% of our students are economically disadvantaged and 33.3% of our students have disabilities. I teach first and second grade Comprehensive Special Education. My students are wonderful! My students have a wide range of mental, physical, and behavioral abilities. We currently have six older generation iPads that my students love. The issues we have been running into is that the iPads do not support the software updates needed to access the instructional apps our school system uses and they will never be able to update further than what they already are. The general education grade levels have Chromebooks that are used for integrating technology into the classroom, which works wonders! My students need the accessibility of a tablet design due to fine and gross motor skills. The funding for the Special Education Department had been hit hard the past year due to COVID and insurance premiums so we are not able to purchase any devices for my students. It would be greatly appreciated, and absolutely rewarding to see my students using the technology to further their education and to have the same access to technology as general education students. Thank you for your consideration.
