Students need to have a graphing calculator in class for our math lessons but also to be successful on the ACT test. Students use these to analyze different types of functions, compare data, and solve complex algebraic problems every day in class. We have a calculator conundrum. Our current graphing calculators are over ten years old, and they are showing significant signs of overuse. Many students have begun to use an app on their phone but the problem we face lies with requirements on our ACT tests - students cannot use their phones on this test. In fact, phones are distracting enough in class.
