When I started teaching in my district 2 years ago, the arts program had dwindled down to the minimum. There was no music or band teacher and high school students did not have an art teacher. As the new art teacher, me and the music teacher have been working to slowly build up a full arts program for the students of this community. In this project I am requesting just a small part of the puzzle to turn my classroom into a full studio space for my students. I am requesting a kiln furniture set so I can add clay to my curriculum. The district was finally able to purchase a kiln that I have been waiting so long for. The kiln sparked excitement in my students when thinking about the new things they could create. We have already been able to do small projects, but a kiln furniture set would allow for so many more projects to be made, fired, and glazed together. In the future, I would like to see an entire class dedicated to ceramics.
